The Adventures of Pinocchio is a classic children's novel written by Carlo Collodi, first published in 1883. The story follows Pinocchio, a wooden puppet carved by a kind old man named Geppetto. Pinocchio is brought to life by a Blue Fairy, who tells him that if he proves himself brave, truthful, and unselfish, he will be transformed into a real boy.
Throughout his adventures, Pinocchio faces numerous challenges and temptations. He encounters a talking cricket named Jiminy Cricket, who serves as his conscience, guiding him to make the right choices. Pinocchio often struggles with his impulses, lying and getting into trouble, which causes his nose to grow longer each time he tells a falsehood. He also meets various characters, including the Fox and the Cat, who trick him, and the kind and wise Candlewick, who helps him.
Pinocchio's journey is filled with lessons about honesty, responsibility, and the importance of family. He learns the consequences of his actions and gradually matures, eventually earning the chance to become a real boy.

"Hush!" said Pinocchio, interrupting him. "Don't speak ill of me. I'm not a bad fellow. I only like to have a good time."
"A good time!" repeated the Cricket, scornfully. "That's all you think of! But you will come to a bad end, Pinocchio, if you don't mend your ways. You will be hanged, I tell you, by the neck until you are quite black in the face!"
